発売から15年を迎えた「Quake」を記念して，Bethesda Softworksが1996年の新作発売イベントの模様を収めた貴重なムービーを公開

　Bethesda Softworksは，「Quake」の誕生から15年経ったことを記念して，1996年9月に開催された，「Quake World」発売イベントの様子を収録したービーを公開した。

　1996年6月22日にリリースされたQuakeは，「Wolfenstein 3D」や「DOOM」など，FPSの元祖ともいえるタイトルで名を馳せていたid Softwareの待望の新作タイトルだった。それまで簡易的な手法で表現されていたグラフィックスを完全に3D化し，さらに「Doom II」のようにサードパーティのオンラインサービスに頼らず，ムービーにもある「Quake World」という拡張版を無料リリースすることでネット対戦を簡単なものにするなど，現在主流のスタイルを確立した，ゲーム史における記念碑的な作品だ。

　Quakeは「FPSの父」と言われるJohn Romero（ジョン・ロメロ）氏と，「3Dゲームエンジンの父」と言われるJohn Carmack（ジョン・カーマック）氏がコラボした最後のゲームでもあり，それ以降，2人は別々の道を歩むことになる。

　公開されたビデオの後半には，カーマック氏がプロゲーマーやジャーナリストのインタビューに答えるシーンが収められているが，カーマック氏は非常にシャイで，人前に顔を出すことはほとんどないため，かなり貴重な映像だといえる。ちなみに彼の隣にいるのは，現在Epic Gamesでビジネスを担当をしている，ジェイ・ウィルバート（Jay Wilbert）氏だ。

　現在，id SoftwareはZeniMax Mediaの傘下にあり，2011年9月には久々の新作「RAGE」（PC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）がリリースされる。id Softwareにとっては，DOOM，Quakeに続く第3のIP（知的財産）であり，またロメロ氏のアイデアによらない最初のタイトルになるわけで，こちらにもゲーマーの期待が集まっている。
