ラバーホース・アニメーションにこだわるアクションシューター「MOUSE: P.I. For Hire」，ディープダイブ映像を公開

　Fumi Gamesは，パブリッシャのPlaySideから2026年3月19日にリリース予定の新作アクションシューター「MOUSE: P.I. For Hire」（PC / Switch2 / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / Switch / PS4 / Xbox One）の開発現場の舞台裏を紹介するディープダイブ映像を公開した。


　「MOUSE: P.I. For Hire」（邦題: MOUSE：やとわれの探偵）は，1930年代の白黒映画時代にハリウッドで勃興したラバーホース・アニメーションといわれる技法を応用した，一人称視点型のアクションゲームだ。
　日本語では「ゴムのホース」を意味する“ラバーホース（Rubber Hose）とは，キャラクターの手足や首がグニャグニャと動き回ることにより，キャラクターたちの慌ただしい動きを描写する手法を意味したものだ。ミッキーマウスやルーニーテューンズ，ベティブープ，ポパイなどもその範疇にある。


　今回のディープダイブ映像では，ラバーホース・アニメーションにこだわり，3D環境下でカートゥーン的な2Dキャラクターを最適に表現するため，キャラクター，および主人公の手や武器をすべて手描きしていることが紹介されている。
　さまざまな動きを表現するために，1体のキャラクターにつき6つの角度からの描写を用意したのに加え，少しのゲームデザインの変更でもキャラクターアニメーションをすべて描き変える必要が生じるなど，開発チームはかなり苦労したそうだ。

　「MOUSE: P.I. For Hire」には，プレイヤーがミッションの始まりと終わりに訪れるハブがある。ハブには，ミッションの成果や次に行うべきことをチェックできる「探偵事務所」，情報収集の場所となる居酒屋「リトル・ビッグ」，そして武器の改造を請け負ってくれる機械工タミーの工房「タミーズ・リング」が用意されている。
　また，プレイヤーが自由に遊べるミニゲームもあり，カードを使った野球のボードゲームが映像で確認できる。


　映像では，相手が溶けてしまうまで白い塗装剤を放射し続ける「ターペンタイン」や，相手を凍らせて粉々に砕いてしまう「フリーズガン」，壁などを破壊できる「カートゥーンキャノン」といった武器も紹介している。
　カートゥーンキャノンは，弾薬を切り替えてショットガンのように利用し，ロボットのような機械系の敵と戦うのに有効なようだ。

　また，ゲームに登場する複数体のボスキャラクターについても触れられている。すでにアートワークが公開されているアリゲーターギャングのリーダー「ヴィク・ガトーレ（Vic Gatore）」に加えて，新たに幽霊女「サード・ワイフ（Third Wife）」の姿も確認できる。
　墓地に出現するサード・ワイフは，懐中電灯で照らすと一時的に無力化できるなど，それぞれのボスファイトには特殊なアイテムを持参する必要があるようだ。


　「MOUSE: P.I. For Hire」は，私立探偵ジャックが依頼された小さな失踪事件が，マウスバーグの町の裏にクモの巣のように張り巡らされた複雑な陰謀へと発展していくというストーリーが展開する。絶え間なく動き続けるアクション性の高いゲームながらも，メトロイドヴァニアにインスパイアされたという探索要素も加えられている。気になる人は，Steamストアページでウィッシュリストに追加して，続報をチェックしておこう。
