「F.E.A.R.」や「シャドウ・オブ・モルドール」などで知られるMonolith Productionsが閉鎖へ。新作「Wonder Woman」は開発中止に

　Warner Bros. Games傘下のMonolith Productionsが閉鎖され，同社が手がけていた新作タイトル「Wonder Woman」も開発中止になったことが判明した。

　これは，北米メディアBloombergのオンライン版（リンク）が報じたものを，ゲーム情報サイトKotaku（リンク）が行ったメールインタビューで確認されたものだ。

　1994年に創業したMonolith Productionsは，1997年にFPS「Blood」をリリース。その後も「機動警察パトレイバー」にインスパイアされた「Shogo: Mobile Armor Division」（1998年）や，カルト的ヒットとなった「The Operative: No One Lives Forever」（2000年），人気映画をMMORPG化した「The Matrix Online」（2005年），さらにはサイコロジカルホラー要素を加えたFPS「F.E.A.R.」（2005年）など，思い出深い作品を連発したメーカーだ。

　2004年にWarner Bros. Gamesの傘下デベロッパとなり，「シャドウ・オブ・モルドール（Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor）」（2014年）などパブリッシャの強みを生かしたライセンスゲームを多く手がけていた。しかし，2017年の「シャドウ・オブ・ウォー（Middle-earth: Shadow of War）」を最後に新作はリリースされていない。
　2021年末に，アクションアドベンチャー「Wonder Woman」の開発がアナウンスされたが，その際に公開されたトレイラーはCGを使ったモックアップの状態に過ぎなかったとされる。

　Bloombergの記事によると，Monolith Productionsに加えて，オンラインゲーム「MultiVersus」や「Harry Potter: Quidditch Campions」を手がけたPlayer First Games，そしてFree-to-Play型ゲームを開発していたとされるWarner Bros. Games San Diegoの2社もあわせて閉鎖されることになったという。なお，「MultiVersus」については，5月中にもサーバーが停止される予定とのことだ。

　Warner Bros. Gamesは，「Batman: Arkham」シリーズでファンに知られ，「スーサイド・スクワッドキル・ザ・ジャスティス・リーグ」をリリースしたばかりのRocksteady Studiosも2024年末にリストラを行っている。Kotakuに対する声明では，「2025年以降に成長していくための難しい決断」であるとWarner Bros. Gamesは答えている。
